This is a wonderfully detailed and very informative blog post about the service manual for your old PlayStation 2, sometimes called the disc drive. The most common issue with most PS2s is there can be problems with the motherboard. The standard guide will only help you if you know what to look for and what to do. However, this site provides very thorough instruction on how to fix most of the issues you may encounter with your PS2. This site also has installation videos for when you are doing the interior repair of the console. Please don't. It's not CQC that breaks... it's the SCPH-50001 model. You'll still have problems with your disc reading if you clean it.
